ESG / SUSTAINABILITY LEAD (ENVIRONMENT & DEI)

We are seeking an ESG/Sustainability Lead for this newly created role to lead our efforts in this area. Reporting to the Board, this is an incredible opportunity for someone who is passionate about strategic development and hands-on implementation of sustainability initiatives.
This role requires an understanding of the key pillars of our ESG strategy: environmental, social, and economic. You will focus on Environmental Sustainability (both for Medialab and for the work we do for our client's), Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and social responsibility projects, supported by our leadership team, HR, and Communities (Employee Resource Groups).
ROLE OVERVIEW:
As our ESG/Sustainability Lead, you will integrate sustainable practices and DEI principles into every facet of our operations. This role involves not just leading initiatives but inspiring change, educating our team, and embedding these values into our daily practices. You'll have the autonomy to innovate and the support to implement strategies that enhance our workplace, community, and client work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sustainability - Environmental, Social & Economic:
- Collaborate with our sustainability partners, FuturePlus, to develop and execute a Sustainability strategy, emphasising reducing our environmental impact, promoting sustainable media practices, and contributing to the long-term viability of the business.
- Review existing practices to identify improvements, establish priorities, and develop a roadmap for implementation.
- Measure and manage Medialab’s environmental footprint, including scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
- Implement a process to monitor and report back to our clients on the carbon Impact of their media campaigns.
- Identify areas to make Medialab a more environmentally sustainable business, incorporating these into our culture and client interactions.
- Integrate sustainability into our media planning and buying processes, working with suppliers to adopt eco-friendly practices.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion:
- Develop DEI metrics and goals, delivering a roadmap focusing on recruitment, retention, and training & development, ensuring all processes are equitable and inclusive.
- Review, improve, and implement best practices to achieve our DEI ambitions, embedding these principles into our culture and ways of working.
- Enhance recruitment practices to attract a diverse talent pool, working closely with HR and departmental leaders to implement bias-reducing strategies.
- Lead training and development programs on DEI best practices, fostering an environment where every employee can flourish.
- Oversee the planning and delivery of educational events surrounding key cultural moments through our Together We Stand forum, with support from our Communities (ERGs).
Core:
- Measure, report, and communicate the progress of our sustainability and DEI efforts, leveraging data to inform decision-making up to Board level.
- Work with HR and Marketing to develop and share communications around events and activities, both internally and externally, demonstrating our commitment to key stakeholders.
- Engage with all levels of the organisation to embed sustainability and DEI into our day-to-day activities.
- Develop relationships with trade organisations, industry bodies, and third-party specialists to support and inform our activity, staying abreast of best practice and relevant legislation.
- Support the development of our Sustainability & DEI Communities, providing them with the resources to thrive and contribute to Medialab’s culture.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Solid experience in implementing and managing similar sustainability and DEI projects.
- Demonstrated leadership in sustainability and DEI, with a track record of successful program development and implementation.
- Preferably experienced in the marketing, media, or tech industries.
- Strong understanding of sustainability principles, including environmental management, social equity, and economic viability.
- Strategic thinker with analytical capabilities to turn insights into action.
- Exceptional project management and leadership skills, translating strategic vision into actionable plans.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of inspiring, engaging, and collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders, up to Board level.
